A sound of touching clarity, refined musicianship and compelling expression - with these qualities Berlin based tenor Christoph Eder is captivating his audiences. In demand as a passionate soloist in oratorio and Lied alike, Eder is complementing his solo activities by singing in internationally renowned ensembles and choirs. Highlight of the 2026/27 season is the time around easter with a solo performance as Evangelist in Bachs St. Matthews passion at the Kammermusiksaal Berlin and an international tour of the same work with Utopia lead by Theodor Currentzis, including performances in cities like Brussels, Madrid and Athens. Further highlights include the resumption of Staatsballett Berlin’s production Nurejew at the Deutsche Oper (staging by Kirill Serebrennikov) in which Eder will be involved as a member of Vocalconsort Berlin, a performance of several of J.S. Bachs Christmas cantatas with Gaechinger Cantorey under the direction of Hans-Christoph Rademann at the Grand hall of Elbphilharmonie and the production War and peace by CHORWERK RUHR under the direction of Yuval Weinberg with concerts in Gent, Antwerp and Berlin.
Having first studied musicology and orchestral conducting Eder started his career as a professional singer only in his mid twenties. He laid the foundations of his vocal technique under the tutelage of Snežana Brzaković, Prof. Jörn Dopfer (HfMT Hamburg) & Florian Sievers (HfMT Leipzig) and is completing this education as a private student of Prof. Simon Bode (HfM Hanns Eisler) since the summer of 2025. During various masterclasses he received impulses by artists such as Ema Kirkby (Masterclass on John Dowland in Bremen, fall of 2026), Nikolay Borchev and Karola Theill (Masterclass in Liedgestaltung in Berlin, summer of 2025), Patrick Grahl and Daniel Heide (Sommerakademie Schloss Hundisburg 2024), Lionel Meunier (Atelier at Musikfest Bremen, summer of 2024) as well as Hans-Christoph Rademann and Scott Weir (Bachwoche Stuttgart, spring of 2022 and 23). His participation in Balthasar-Neumann-Chor’s academy program and in the Schola hosted by Rundfunkchor Berlin (both in 2022) ignited his enthusiasm for professional ensemble singing and Eder now works with renowned groups such as Rundfunkchor Berlin, CHORWERK RUHR, Vocalconsort Berlin, Zürcher Singakademie, SCHOLA HEIDELBERG and LauschWerk on a regular basis. In the process he has worked with conductors like Kent Nagano, Kirill Petrenko, Thomas Hengelbrock and Christoph Eschenbach and performed on numerous stages of international recognition such as Berliner Philharmonie, Elbphilharmonie, Bavarian State Opera, Komische Oper Berlin and Deutsche Oper Berlin.
Eder is also working as a freelance author (with Elbphilharmonie, Konzerthaus Berlin and Konzerthaus Dortmund) and in music management (for Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin and CHORALSPACE Berlin). His previous activities in this field include an internship for dramaturgy at Deutsche Oper Berlin, an assistant position in the marketing-department of Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin lasting several years and a two-year traineeship in communications and sales at the Ensemble Resonanz gGmbH in Hamburg.
